The Archery Club was founded on the 10th November 2001 by Albert Crouth and his wife Joyce. Along with a few of their friends they met when ever they could at Ashington High School and the club became known as Green Lane Disabled Archers.
The club later moved to Newbiggin Sports Centre and expanded to include able bodied archers. With Albert’s relentless enthusiasm the club secured grants to purchase an extensive range of beginners bows, club equipment and trophies that we still use today.
Albert was a great character and had a way to bring out the best in everybody. More than just a coach, he was loved by everyone but sadly died in 2006 after a long struggle with cancer. The club still holds true to Albert’s values and honours his memory every year with a tournemant known as The Albert Crouth Memorial Trophy. This tournament takes place in March each year and we shoot a Worcester round.
